Are You Committed?

When it comes to your life and health and the goals and dreams God has for you…are you committed?  This is the question I ask myself every day.  It is an extremely important and critical question.   The greatest joys of my life have come from my full commitment to whatever action I was undertaking.  At the same time, my greatest frustrations have come when I settled for less than what I know is best.
I remember going to the beach in Northeast Florida (where I grew up) in the middle of winter with 58 degree water and huge, bellowing waves in windy/choppy conditions.  I sat there with my wetsuit on and body board or surfboard in hand thinking about the cold and physically exhausting experience that was about to come.  I had a choice to make…go back home and stay comfortable or jump in the water and experience pain and discomfort all for the brief but incredible thrill of riding a huge wave.
Knowing that God calls me to be “more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37), I decided to swim out to the surf break in the freezing cold water with rapid and non-ceasing waves crashing down on me.  As I entered the vortex of the major surf break, I was reminded of the pain of not giving it my all.
Duck-diving under gigantic waves depends on your ability to get low and power your way underneath the impact.  Exhausted from the last 3 consecutive duck-dives with only a breath in-between I felt like I couldn’t withstand going deep anymore.  I sat there with a helpless look as a monstrous wave came down upon me.  The wave nearly flattened me…breaking my body board in half and sending me spiraling toward shore.
Was I finished…oh no way!  I grabbed my other board and swam out faster and with more power than ever.  The same circumstance presented itself and this time I gave it everything I had and pushed through.  When I reached the surf break…I was so exhausted and grateful at the same time…I had to take a moment to catch my breath.
As I jumped aboard my first wave…I realized what it was all worth.  The thrill and excitement as I came down the wave and it barreled over me was unbelievable.  As I came out of the wave and paddled back to the surf break I heard God whisper in my ear…”never doubt or despair.  I have a huge work in store for you and I need you to be fully committed.  Are you ready to ride this wave with Me?”  In tears I cried yes, yes, yes, yes I am ready to ride this wave with you!
Committed to me means that I am ready to play this game at 100%.  Of course, this means I need 100% of the neurological messages from my brain getting out to my body to allow it to function and heal appropriately.  This is why after 6 years of amazing chiropractic care that has dramatically improved my health, I continue to get adjusted weekly.  This has kept me from getting ill or injured over this period of time and allowed me to enjoy better health today than I ever have in my life.
I know that God has put you in my life for a very important reason.  When I ask myself about my commitment in the morning…I think about all the people that are depending on me that day.  When I lay my hands on you…I am fully committed to helping you reach your God-given potential.  I pour my heart and soul into your care and my prayer is that you will do the same with your life and health.
